Gaming Kickstarter Roundup
We love gaming kickstarters here at Skyland Games. This is by no means a comprehensive list of all the gaming kickstarters currently going on, but these are a few that have caught my attention, and as of this posting, are still excepting backers.
First up, Monster Stand-Ins. This is a project by Inkwell Ideas, the same guy that brought you dungeonmorph dice/cards/font. This project is about creating a durable, cost-effective alternative to miniature figures. These plastic stand-ins feature a few distinct advantages over minis beyond just being cheaper. Joe plans on making them out of durable credit card plastic, on which GMs can write and rewrite conditions or numbers. They’re also easier to store and move between gaming locations since they lay flat. Need to battle a swarm of orcs or goblins? Print out a few paper copies from the included PDF of all the art! $10 for just the PDF or $30 for a complete set and the PDF.
Next, For The Win. I for one, tire of having to choose one particular genre or popular setting. For The Win combines Zombies, Pirates, Ninjas, Aliens and Monkeys that must all be used in concert in order to win! This looks like a fast-paced tile strategy game that combines the very addicting qualities of easy-to-learn, yet difficult-to-master. I really like Tasty Minstrel Games’ light-hearted approach, and the game seems like it will be a lot of fun. $20 will get you the game, $30 for a game and a shirt.
Finally, Tephra. This heavily beta-tested steampunk RPG has been in development by Cracked Monocle games for the past two years. Using the oft-neglected d12, Tephra is billed as easy-to-learn with unlimited options. A 300-page core rulebook will run you $30. Not a bad deal.
Support innovative independent publishers! Backing game kickstarters encourages new developers and helps being games to gamers that may not have had a chance otherwise. If none of these projects strike your fancy check out the whole Games category!
